City of Coventry Swimming Club top County Championships medal table; Cox takes silver in Nice

CITY of Coventry Swimming Club had a couple of weekends to remember, after success in the County Championships and silverware for the club in France.

97 swimmers from the club between the ages of 10 and 23 participated in this year’s Championships held at their Fairfax Street pool for the final time, as COCSC emphatically topped the medal table.

Taking home 117 medals in all, 41 golds, 42 silver and 34 bronze medals represents a stunning achievement for the club, romping to the top of the table ahead of second place Leamington Spa by 37 medals.

Individually and collectively the club excelled, with their 10-12 relay male and female teams taking gold in the free and the medley relay events.

They followed up that success with wins in the open age relays, the men’s and women’s 800m freestyle team in particular putting on a real show for spectators.

Eliazebth Caine took four gold medals, whilst Kenza Ajimi took a clean sweep of the breaststroke events (50m, 100m and 200m), while Rebecca Winn and James McClure were other notable individual winners with three medals apiece.

For a final Championships before the move to the new pool at The Alan Higgs Centre, it proved a fitting send off.

Meanwhile over in Nice in France, COCSC swimmer Lauren Cox took part in the French Golden Tour with Swim England.

In the 50m and 100m backstroke events, she finished second on the podium to take silver medals – after achieving personal best times in each event.

The 28.39 time to finish the 50m swim now stands as a West Midlands and Warwickshire senior record, while the 100m time of 1.01.60 also proves a Warwickshire senior record.
