Teenage gunman from Coventry jailed for part in armed robbery

Coventry Editorial 26th Feb, 2019   0

A TEENAGE boy from Coventry has been jailed for his part in an armed robbery in Nuneaton.

The 16-year-old will serve eight years after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a firearm.

It followed an incident at a property on Edgedale Road, Nuneaton, on November 6 last year when three men wearing balaclavas forced entry to the property and threatened the occupants with a gun.

The offenders escaped with six watches and fled in a black BMW towards the Long Shoot.

The youth, from the Wood End area of Coventry, was arrested in the West Midlands on December 3 and charged on December 4.

He appeared at Leamington Youth Court on December 5 and was remanded in custody.

He was sentenced at Coventry Youth Court on February 20.

Police continue to appeal to trace the other men involved.

Detective sergeant Carl Buckley said: “This was a very serious crime which caused real fear to the victims.

“The gravity of the crime is reflected by the length of the detention and sends a message that the courts will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.”

Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident 443 of November 6 2018, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
