THE introduction of admission fees at Coventry Transport Museum is a blow ahead of the city being UK City of Culture in 2021.
Let us hope the plan to only charge visitors from outside the city is not the thin end of the wedge, and might prevent the stunning attraction’s decline and further city taxpayer bailouts.
The idea has been mooted as an undesirable last resort for years, amid financial headaches and difficulties levering in enough funding and commercial revenue.
It is now two decades since the city’s cultural ‘crown jewel’ museums and cultural attractions were placed in an arms length trusts, partly for the purpose of attracting more commercial revenues to make them sustainable.
