‘MINDLESS’ vandals have smashed up a police van in Coventry.
The attack happened last night (July 31) as police were responding to an incident in Wyken.
The West Midlands Police Force Response Unit tweeted: “Police dealing with an incident earlier return to their vehicle to find mindless individuals had smashed all of the windows.
“Let’s hope they don’t need the police as we are now one vehicle down to respond to calls for our help.”
The incident has prompted a furious response from residents on social media.
Paula Clemons said: “Seriously! What the hell is going on? Bet the very people who did this would want the police if they needed them. Just disgusting.”
Steve Tweedlie suggested: “Police should put some 360 degree cameras on top of the light bars on their roof. Not only will it work as a dash cam but it will provide evidence if something like this happens.”
Des Ellis said: “No respect anymore for our boys in blue.”
And George Ashwell said: “A police van in Coventry? Don’t believe you.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating after the windows of a police van were smashed while parked on Attoxhall Road in the Walsgrave area of Coventry just before 7.30pm last night (Wednesday, July 31).
