Lib Dem's select Greg Judge, Nukey Proctor and Stephen Richmond to contest Coventry

THE LIBERAL Democrats in Coventry have announced their three candidates for the general election, stating ‘a vote for a Lib Dem is a vote to stop Brexit’.

Stephen Richmond, chair of the Coventry Liberal Democrats will stand in Coventry South.

Nukey Proctor, an IT consultant and youth mentor, is contesting Coventry North East and Greg Judge, a cancer research manager, is running in Coventry North West.

Mr Richmond said: “Liberal Democrats are committed to stopping Brexit and that starts with taking no deal of the table. Our message to voters in Coventry is crystal clear – every vote for a Liberal Democrat MP is a vote to stop Brexit.”

Nukey Proctor said: “Labour are distracted with internal infighting and Conservatives don’t seem to understand that simply repeating ‘get Brexit done’ will not provide any comfort for the worker at Jaguar Land Rover worried about their job or the UHCW cancer patient who doesn’t know what Brexit will mean for their medication.

“Liberal Democrats are working hard to stop a disastrous no deal Brexit, tackle the climate crisis and support public services which have been starved of cash by the Tories and mismanaged by Labour locally.”

Mr Judge, who has previously served as a school governor in Coventry and stood in elections in the city, added: “People in Coventry deserve better than this right-wing Conservative Prime Minister who has misled the country over Brexit or a Labour Party determined to fight amongst themselves whilst they attempt to present a reheated plan for the economy that risks dragging the UK back to the blackouts of the 1970s.

“If people want an MP who will work tirelessly as a local champion and help stop Brexit, there is only one choice at the next election. The European elections showed that both locally and nationally, the momentum is with the Liberal Democrats.”

Voters go to the polls on December 12. Mr Richmond will face Zahra Sultana (Labour), Becky Finlayson (Green) and Mattie Heaven (Conservative) in Coventry South.

Along with Mr Judge, Coventry North West is contested by Clare Golby (Conservative) Taiwo Owatemi (Labour) and Stephen Gray (Green).

Nukey Proctor will face incumbent Colleen Fletcher (Labour), Sophie Richards (Conservative) and Matthew Handley (Green) on the ballot for Coventry North East.

Other parties have not yet declared their candidates.
