Coventry Editorial 12th Feb, 2020   0

POLICE investigating the killing of 15-year-old Babacar Diagne have charged a 17-year-old lad with murder.

Officers arrested the teen at his home address in the Wood End area of Coventry – he is set to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court this morning (February 12).

Two other murder suspects – both 15-year-old boys – appeared at the same court yesterday morning also charged with murder and are set to stand before a judge at Leamington Crown Court on Thursday.

The two 15-year-olds were denied bail and have been remanded into a secure youth detention facility.

As all three are aged under-18, reporting restrictions mean they cannot be named.

West Midlands police added: “A 15-year-old girl from Wood End arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been released on police bail to give detectives more time to assess her alleged role in the killing.

“Babacar, 15, was found collapsed on grassland off Petitor Crescent, Wood End, at around 7pm on 5 February. A post mortem examination revealed he’d been stabbed multiple times.”

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Scott Griffiths said: “We’ve made very swift progress in identifying, arresting and charging three suspects in the space of seven days.

“But our work continues as we build our case and gather evidence. We still really need to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious last Wednesday between 6-8pm around the Petitor Crescent and Riley Square of Wood End.

“Or anyone who has information about Babacar’s murder can call us in confidence.”

“Anyone with information should contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
