PUPILS at a Balsall Common Primary School have been taught to save water by Coventry-based Severn Trent.
The region’s water company gave the youngsters ways to save water in an assembly.
Balsall Common Primary School has an ecology campaign to help the children learn about ways to look after water resources.
Howard Rose, Publicity manager at the school said: “The day started when Maxine Smith from Severn Trent delivered a memorable whole school water assembly, where the children promised to only fill the bath half full and only shower for four minutes, making efforts to save water.
“They then went outside and joined Clare Dare and Dave Cork from the Severn Trent team to take part in a series of experiments, simulations that would be part of a working day at Severn Trent and to sort out what should and should not go down the loo – luckily there was a catchy song. ‘There’s only three things you should put down the loo… toilet paper, pee and poo!’
“I would like to thank Maxine, Claire and Dave for all their hard work in putting the day together, it was pitched perfectly, and to Severn Trent for allowing their staff to come into school to explain the importance of saving water and keeping the sewer system flowing.
“This is another example of the benefits to both sides when local business work with schools.”
Maxine Smith, from Severn Trent, said: “It was amazing to see how engaged and how knowledgeable the children were. I am sure they will all make a great effort to save water and help save our planet.”
