TRADERS at Coventry market say they are making the most of their close relationship with farmers to keep stalls supplied.

One visitor, Steve Vent, said: “Coventry Market is still open with plenty of fresh fruit, salad, veg, fish, meat, bread, rice, flour, nuts and cakes. There is still fresh produce coming in every morning.”

As reported in the Observer, supermarkets around Coventry and the region have seen long queues and low stocks of essentials as shoppers stockpile during the coronavirus pandemic.

A manager at Coventry Market told the Observer: “It was quiet here earlier in the week but now as supermarkets are struggling with stock, the market is starting to pick up quite a lot.

“We still able to get our fruit and veg, as a lot of our traders collect direct from the farms, as opposed to supplies with a few layers at the supermarket.”

“Until we hear otherwise from the council the market continues to be open for business.

“All the butchers, fishmongers and traders are doing fine with their stock.”.
