Call for makers in Warwickshire to help 3D print nurses' visors

RESIDENTS of a Warwickshire village are clubbing together as ‘makers’ to help provide equipment to medical staff.

As a shortage of personal protective equipment endangers hospital workers on coronavirus wards, communities are contributing with their own equipment.

Monks Kirby village hall committee has called for 3D printer owners in the Rugby area to join the efforts to make face visors.

The makers can use open-source templates to print the essential equipment.

Committee member Karen Lawlor said: “Those residents who own a 3D printer can help frontline staff in the battle against Covid-19.

“Retired engineer Gordon Hutchison is now producing at least two precious visors every day on his 3D printer.

“Gordon simply downloaded a protective shield template free of charge from prusa3d.com.

“The 3D printer takes about four hours to make each visor, and final assembly is completed in minutes. The visors are delivered to local nursing homes and care homes via a Rugby medical centre assisted by a community network of volunteers. If you live in the Rugby area, you have a 3D printer, and you would be willing to help, please email me via [email protected].”
