COVENTRY Cathedral has reopened today (Tuesday November 3) for private prayer after “a number of members of staff” were asked to self isolate on Sunday.
The building was closed yesterday after a member of the clergy tested positive for Covid-19 and cleaning measures were undertaken.
Ahead of the second national lockdown on Thursday November 5, the city cathedral will be open this week between 11am and 3pm, while daily workshop will now resume online.
A statement issued by the Cathedral team said: “On Sunday evening, a number of members of staff were instructed to self-isolate following contact with someone who has coronavirus. In the light of this news, the Cathedral will be closed on Monday but we plan to re-open for private prayer on Tuesday November 3 between 11am and 3pm.
“We will continue with this pattern of opening during the rest of this week and on into the coming four week lock-down period, except on Sundays, when in order to manage the service we hope to be able to live stream in the morning, we will open to the public for private prayer at 12 noon instead of 11am.”
On Sunday November 1 Kathryn Fleming, Canon Pastor at the cathedral, tweeted her congregation to say she had tested positive for Covid-19, and thanking them for their prayers.
She said: “Because you are all so very kind, I feel I need to tell you the test was positive, as predicted I don’t feel too awful, and a conversation with a wonderful friend who is a senior nurse AND a priest has talked me down from undue catastrophising. But your prayers are much valued.”
Daily worship is currently available online with members of the Cathedral team live-streaming services from their homes. Services can be accessed via tiny.cc/cathfacebook.
