Bedworth's 'Santa' David shaves his beard and hair to give Sense a pre-Christmas boost

A LORRY driver who has grown a ‘Father Christmas style beard’ since the first lockdown began in March has shaved it off to raise £850 for disability charity Sense.

David Ashdown, labelled as ‘Bedworth’s very own Santa Claus’ by his friends and family, also had his head shaved as part of the fund-raiser.

The 66-year-old avid fisherman received support from Lanes Fishing Tackle shop and fellow anglers in the area.

The big shave was held following social distancing guidelines at Max Cuts Barbers on Smorrall Lane in town with his family there to support him.

David has supported the charity for years and was motivated to do the festive fund-raising challenge after learning more about the disproportional impact the pandemic has had on disabled people and their families.

He thanked everyone who supported him and said: “I wanted to put a smile on everyone’s faces for Christmas after what has been a dismal year.”

Carl Williams Community Fund-raising Manager at Sense, said: “Thank you to David for taking on this festive fundraising challenge. It’s thanks to people like David that Sense is able to support children and adults who have complex disabilities or are deafblind.”
