AS COVENTRY slowly starts to reopen tomorrow after the national Covid lockdown, and with the City of Culture now under way, one of the first taking place is a celebration of nurses and frontline healthcare workers.
Warwick Art Centre’s The Language of Kindness, which runs from next Thursday to Saturday, May 20 to 22, is a socially distanced ensemble-style piece of dance theatre based on Christie Watson’s best-selling memoir recalling her 20 years as a nurse.
Originally scheduled to visit Coventry last year, the production brings to life the realities, challenges, heartbreaks and joys of working for the NHS and supporting families as they face their best and worst moments.
The Costa Award-winning writer also chats to author and doctor Sam Guglani in a post-show talk on May 20.
Call 02476 524524 or visit www.warwickartscentre.co.uk for information and tickets.
On Wednesday there is also a chance to see a working rehearsal of the production, free to NHS staff, frontline health workers, university and secondary school students (email requests to [email protected]).
With the Turner Prize 2021 shortlist now announced including for the first time five artist collectives, tickets for this and dozens more brilliant City of Culture events are now available to book here https://coventry2021.co.uk/what-s-on/. They range from art exhibitions to theatre, dancehall sessions and the UK Asian Film Festival later this month.
