THE COVENTRY Moves Into Work event held in the city centre this week has been hailed a great success after more than 550 people attended throughout the day to check out opportunities available locally.

Hosted by the Coventry City Council Job Shop with support from City of Culture and WMCA, residents were able to meet with dozens of local and national prospective employers, independent training providers, advice services and educational organisations.

It was a chance for people looking for work to find out about gaining new skills, qualifications, and live vacancies.

There were 11 employers at the event, including CV Life, Platinum Care, Stadium TM, Coventry City of Culture and Coventry University as well as national organisations including National Express and Balfour Beatty Vinci.

Alongside the cohort of employers were 14 training providers and 10 employment support organisations.

The training providers – which included organisations such as Coventry Adult Education, Foleshill Women’s Training, Coventry College, Pet Xi and JCB Training – showcased their expertise across a range of disciplines from basic skills and ESOL employability, to advanced technical skills such as Coding or Construction.

The employment support organisations included Coventry Job Shop, Coventry Migration Team, Positive Youth Foundation, St Francis Employability and the National Careers Services.

Coun Jim O’Boyle, Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs, Regeneration and Climate Change, said: “It has been absolutely outstanding to see so many fantastic organisations – including our own partners – attend the event to speak about their opportunities to Coventry’s skilled workers.

“It shows there are so many exciting employment opportunities in Coventry at the moment, and I’m proud that we’ve helped to connect hardworking and talented Coventry residents with prospective employers so that they can reach their potential and make the most of the event’s opportunities.”
