WASPS have announced the signings of Alex McHenry and Patrick Harrison on short-term loan deals from United Rugby Championship sides Munster Rugby and Edinburgh Rugby respectively.
Both players have been signed to bolster the squad with centre McHenry providing injury cover for Malakai Fekitoa who is out with a shoulder problem and Harrison providing vital cover at hooker whilst Gabriel Oghre is unavailable.
Irishman McHenry, 24, came through Munster’s academy where he captained the under-19’s and has been capped by Ireland at under-20 level.
Harrison, 19, became the youngest hooker in Edinburgh’s history when he made his debut in March last year at the age of 18 – he also became the third youngest debutant in PRO14 history.
Wasps head coach Lee Blackett is thrilled to add the pair to his squad as the club’s injury problems mount ahead of their game with Exeter Chiefs this weekend.
Blackett said: “We are delighted to bring Alex and Paddy on board, they will provide vital cover for us, while we are without a number of first team squad players.”
New recruit McHenry added: “I am delighted to get the opportunity to play in the Gallagher Premiership, Wasps play a great brand of rugby and I’m looking forward to playing my part.”
Fellow addition Harrison said: “I am excited to come down and play some rugby in the English Premiership, Wasps are a famous club, and it is an honour to have joined them.”
Wasps host Exeter at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday, October 16 with kick-off at 3pm.
