THE Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge has now finished after four weeks of challenges, family fun and competition throughout October.
11,500 participants took part in the Challenge’s activities and scanned the Go Parks QR codes in participating venues around the city.
98 schools took part in the challenge, with five categories representing schools by their on-roll numbers.
The winners have been announced for each category as follows:
Starley category
- 1st – St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School
- 2nd – Howes Primary School
- 3rd – Longford Park Primary School
Leofric category
- 1st – Park Hill Primary School
- 2nd – Pearl Hyde Community Primary School
- 3rd – St. Thomas More Catholic Primary School
Godiva category
1st – Coundon Primary School
2nd – Ernesford Grange Primary School
3rd – Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School
Whittle category
1st The Westwood Academy
2nd – Ernesford Grange School and Community College
3rd – Coundon Court School and Community College
Mercia category
1st – Sherbourne Fields School
2nd – Riverbank Academy
3rd – Baginton Fields School
Educational and cultural themed weeks including Creative Writing Week were also incorporated.
55 locations across the city hosted a QR code banner or poster for residents to enter and vote, including the week-long Roller Disco event.
The free-to-enter challenge was in partnership with Coventry East and West School Games organisers who host sport and physical activity competitions.
Culture Coventry worked with the Go Parks team to deliver cultural activities throughout the Challenge, including four free events in parks.
Coun Kamran Caan, cabinet member for public health and sport, said: “It really has been amazing to see so many children of all fitness levels and abilities in the city get so excited about the challenge, supporting their school, celebrating our cultural title and enjoying the activities that have been provided for free around the city throughout.
“I would like to congratulate all of the winning schools on their fantastic efforts and managing to hold their positions in the leaderboards to the end.”
School Games Organisers from Coventry West and East, Danny Kingham and Stuart Davoile, added: “So many asked for the Challenge to come back after the first one came to an end in February, so it was great to be a part of it again.”
