A BEDWORTH man has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years for a historical rape after being convicted at Warwick Crown Court last month.

Haydn Bingham will also remain on the Sex Offender Register for life.

The 58-year-old from Heath Road, took advantage of a young woman in her 20s on New Year’s Eve 2012.

The woman was asleep but woke to find Bingham assaulting her, and when she tried to push him off, he forced himself upon her and raped her.

The attack was not reported until 2018, but officers from West Midlands Police’s Public Protection Unit have successfully brought a prosecution and achieved a conviction.

Det Con Craig Hall said: “We always take allegations of sexual abuse seriously, no matter how long ago they happened and, as this conviction shows, we will pursue perpetrators through the justice system.

“However, we do always have the victim’s wishes at the heart of what we do. We have specially trained officers to guide them through their options.

“We work with a range of partner agencies who can also offer support.”
