COVENTRY GODIVA HARRIERS member Joseph Gilkes won a silver medal in the triple jump at the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Indoor Championships.
Gilkes, competing for the University of Bedfordshire, jumped 14.78 metres in the final to take silver having achieved a personal best (PB) of 14.91 metres in qualifying.
The qualifying mark was set at 14 metres and Gilkes smashed beyond the necessary distance in the first round at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
And Gilkes also achieved a long jump PB of 6.98 metres at the championships but was unable to medal in the final.
Gilkes posted to his Instagram story: “Overwhelmed with the support I’ve received over the weekend.
“Second place as well as two PB’s over the whole weekend and struggling through some very rough pains shows the potential of this season.
“Thank you to everyone’s kind messages and for people that tuned in to watch the stream.
“Special thanks to my coach, my squad, my family and friends, Coventry Godiva Harriers, University of Bedfordshire sport and BUCS sport.
“We will be back for BUCS outdoors bigger and better!”
