HUNDREDS of people from across the region lit up Warwick Racecourse recently at Alzheimer’s Society Glow walk to shine a light on dementia after dark.

People across the generations put their best foot forward dressed in neon and glitter to raise money for life-changing dementia support and research.

Ame Chauhan nee Mandair and her family from Solihull and Coventry joined the colourful wave of fundraisers uniting against dementia after losing her beloved father Baghail Singh Mandair.

“It will be 15 years this March since we lost our beloved dad to one of the worst diseases any human can experience – vascular dementia.”

said Ame who with her family raised more than £1,200 for the charity on the night.

“More needs to be done to find a cure and better treatments for dementia. Imagine waking up one day not knowing who you are, where you are and who those around you are?

“The truth is, this could happen to any one of us, or our loved ones at any time. So please donate what you can – your money will make a huge difference to people living with dementia and their loved ones right now.”

Those taking part completed a 5km route around an illuminated Warwick Racecourse.

Janice Le Tellier, Alzheimer’s Society area manager for Warwickshire, said: “After a devastating two years for people affected by dementia, we are in awe of the hundreds of people who banded together to improve the lives of people living with the condition.

“Nobody should have to face dementia alone without adequate support, and it is only with the generous help of our fundraisers that Alzheimer’s Society can carry out its urgent work to be there for those who need it most.

“Every pound raised through Glow will help Alzheimer’s Society provide vital information and support, improve care, fund research and create lasting change for people affected by the condition.”
