Coventry podiatrist helps Rotarians get homeless back on their feet

Coventry Editorial 1st May, 2022   0

A COVENTRY podiatrist has collaborated with The Rotary Club of Erdington and Birmingham charity Have A Hart, Help The Homeless to help get rough sleepers back on their feet.

Gary Dancer runs a private chiropody clinic and is providing foot treatment to homeless people, as well as handing out free socks at their base in Temple Row.

The volunteers are helped by NHS footcare assistant Tracey Launchbury to provide nail cutting and hard skin removal and on occasion first aid, including once needing to get glass out of someone’s foot.

Gary has been doing similar clinics for the homeless for years with organisations such as the Salvation Army.

Gary Dancer said: “We have partnered with Have a Hart because we have supported their work for a long time.

“We know it is a trusted organisation that shares our values as Rotarians.

“The simple fact is homeless people have many problems with their feet because of poor shoes and often wet feet for days at a time.

“This can be very dangerous because it can lead to ulcers and other conditions.

“The other problem is undiagnosed diabetes combined with drug and alcohol abuse can be lethal.

“I can detect and give advice about this which hopefully saves big problems later on.”

Anyone can email Gary at [email protected] to donate socks to the cause.
