Coventry businesses can expect visit if they fail to make the right pension contributions to staff

EMPLOYERS in Coventry suspected of failing to make the right pension contributions to their staff can expect spot-check inspections from The Pensions Regulator (TPR.)

The new compliance drives marks a return to larger in-person inspections after TPR had to reduce their operations throughout the pandemic.

They detect non-compliance using RTI data shared by HMRC as well as alerts from pension schemes and whistleblowers.

The inspections also allow TPR to identify common administrative errors from employers.

Most non-compliant employers are helped by TPR inspectors to get back on track.

TPR’s Head of Compliance and Enforcement Joe Turner said: “Despite the challenges of the past two years, the majority of employers have continued to meet their responsibilities, including paying contributions in full on time and recognising that automatic enrolment is business as usual.

“But where we are aware that an employer is failing to do the right thing, we will take action to protect savers, including on-site inspections.

“This means we could be knocking on an employer’s door in any part of the UK.”
