A VACANT space inside Coventry’s Telegraph Hotel has been transformed into Britain’s first permanent immersive digital art gallery.

The 800 metre squared exhibition is based in the old reel store at the Hotel and has seen more than 20 new jobs created.

The deal was completed for Coventry’s City of Culture Trust and the lease was negotiated by Leamington law firm Wright Hassall.

The site will include experimental and innovative art commissions and has been funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Coventry City Council and the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce among others.

City of Culture Trust chief executive Martin Sutherland said: “The Reel Store is a hugely exciting venture, with Coventry becoming home to the UK’s only permanent, truly immersive digital art gallery, a major draw for Coventrians and visitors.

“We are delighted that our partners have backed the vision for this new visitor attraction, transforming old media into new media, as part of the legacy of our year as UK City of Culture.”
