COVENTRY Godiva Harriers’ athletes came away with six medals, including one gold, from the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Sportcity in Manchester.
Godiva’s Jake Minshull enjoyed a fine championships as he won gold in the Senior Boys (SB) 400-metre hurdles in 51.73 seconds to set a new personal best (PB) and club record in the process.
And Minshull was also part of Warwickshire’s SB 400-metre hurdles relay team who won bronze.
There was also relay success for Godiva athletes Emmanuela Asante and Daniella Bleach who both won silver as part of the West Midlands 4x100m relay team.
Asante also made the semi-finals of the Inter Girls (IG) 100m event whilst Bleach produced a massive PB of 45.17 secs to make the final of the IG 300-metre hurdles where she finished seventh.
And Godiva’s Camiah Bennett put in a fabulous performance to win bronze in the IG 300m after setting a new PB of 39.87 secs in the heats.
Harriers athlete Stephen Baffour also won bronze with an impressive run in the SB 200m.
Elsewhere, Imogen Lane placed ninth in the Junior Girls (JG) discus with a throw of 26.08m whilst Ella Wilkinson finished seventh in the JG pole vault with 2.70m.
Godiva’s Reece Clark set a PB of 37.95 secs in the Junior Boys (JB) 300m heats as he narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
And Naomi Jones finished sixth in the IG long jump event with a leap of of 5.49m whilst Corey Nealon was unlucky not to progress to the final of the SB 200m as he missed out by just 0.04 of a second.
Rusciano Thomas-Riley qualified fastest for the final of the Inter Boys (IB) 100m only to sustain an unfortunate injury during the race.
Lastly, Monica Davidson was unable to attend the championships due to Covid.
Godiva are always looking for new members and the club can offer media, social media and communication skills experience to add to their CV’s.
