BUDDING bookworms from across Coventry can take part in the Gadgeteers Summer Reading Challenge at the city’s libraries during the six-week holidays, writes Ryan Oldfield.
July and August provide the perfect opportunity for children aged four to 11 to visit Coventry libraries and sign up.
The fun and inspiring task requires children to read six books during the holidays.
If successful they will be rewarded with a medal and certificate.
Children will be joined by six fictional gadgeteers determined to teach something new.
The characters are brought to life through the writing of Julian Beresford.
Coun Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “Through an exciting book collection and accompanying activities, the Gadgeteers will help to spark children’s curiosity about the world around them.
“They will be stimulated by brilliant facts and be inspired by tales of creativity and invention.
“I encourage as many people as possible to visit their local library and get their young people involved in this exciting challenge.”
CEO of the Reading Agency Karen Napier added: “We are really looking forward to working closely with them to help get children reading, innovating and sparking their imaginations this summer.”
Signing up is free and all families will receive a special collectors folder and stickers upon doing so.
