Coventry hospital workers take on Mont Blanc trek

Coventry Editorial 17th Sep, 2022   0

A TEAM from University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) travelled 40 miles across three countries to raise funds for the local hospitals.

The team of Mont Blanc trekkers including nurses, consultants, physios, chaplains, ODPs and external supporters set off on the four-day challenge on Monday, September 12.

The route saw them cross the borders of France, Italy and Switzerland while ascending nearly 1000metres, which is the equivalent of walking up the Eiffel Tower three times each day.

The money raised will go towards improving services for staff, patients and families at UHCW NHS Trust.

Heather Tysall, a Consultant Nurse in Acute Medicine said: “I’m proud to be a part of the UHCW Mont Blanc Trek Challenge as a way of showing my appreciation and thanks to the Charity team for providing an incredible amount of well-being support to the staff at UHCW and in particular those in my area of Acute Medicine during the unprecedented times of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Heather was admitted to the hospital 12 years ago following a car accident and spent seven days recovering in the trauma ward.

“Being on both sides of the fence I understand the needs and the support that the Charity offers from both the clinical and the patient perspective.

“Thanks to the help from the staff at UHCW I am still able to push myself physically and this trek will certainly do that.”
