Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana challenges Chancellors budget

COVENTRY South MP Zarah Sultana has said the government’s budget has done nothing to help constituents who are ‘terrified at rising bills’.

Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Ms Sultana said her constituents expressed fear over the cost of living, adding this is a ‘crisis for the working class, not the Chancellors class.’

She described the Chancellor’s plan as ‘a Bankers’ Budget that scraps the cap on bonuses, slashes tax for the highest earners, and cuts tax on big business profits.’

Ms Sultana said “up and down the country, people are saying enough is enough” and asked the Chancellor if he believed it is “bankers and millionaire CEOs who most need help”, “rather than working-class communities?”

In response, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng said the plan is ‘not a Bankers’ Budget’, adding the budget would “put £330 into the average person’s pocket”.

Ms Sultana spoke ahead of appearing at the ‘Enough is Enough’ rally in Birmingham last Friday (September 23) which aims to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and has had over 500,000 supporters in just over a month.
