TWO men have been arrested and several stolen vehicles were recovered after police discovered a suspected ‘chop shop’ in Coventry.

Three stolen Fiesta cars, a number of false registration plates, cash and a BB gun were discovered by officers when they moved in on the Newton Close address just before 3pm on Wednesday, November 16.

One man drove at a police vehicle and was tasered as he attempted to run off, and was taken to hospital with a minor injury before being taken into custody on suspicion of the theft of motor vehicles.

A second man was also arrested on suspicion of the same offences.

Insp Stew Lewis, of Coventry Force CID said: “This has been an excellent result. We have discovered a chop shop where a number of stolen vehicles were discovered as well as false registration plates and cash.

“We suspect this facility is very active in the storing and dismantling of stolen vehicles. Our early investigations found three Fiestas discovered at the site were stolen.

“Chop shops like these provide a market for car thieves. They take in stolen cars, strip them and try to mask their identities, and often within just a few hours of them being taken.”
