£10,000 grant helps Clothing Coventry keep people warm this winter

Coventry Editorial 1st Dec, 2022   0

CLOTHING Coventry will be benefitting those needing warm clothes this winter after they were given a £10,000 grant by Tesco.

The charity in Napier Street was formed in 2020 and provides clothing and shoes to people in the city, intending to offer those in need the dignity of choice.

They have rails of seasonal clothing in 16 locations across Coventry including foodbanks to ensure those in need will be able to have something to wear.

Other services include a referral programme where companies and people can apply for clothing parcels they can donate to those who need them.

Tesco ran a poll on Twitter as part of the supermarkets golden grants scheme, where customers could nominate a local charity or good cause that provides food or support to young people.

Katie Wilson, manager at Clothing Coventry, said: “As a charity with a relatively small budget we rely heavily on donations and having this kind of money behind us will really make a huge impact in the coming months.

“We have seen a huge demand in our services. Our parcel donations alone have grown from 30 parcels a week to 100 a week in the past year.

“Several schools have been asking Clothing Coventry to send them clothing as they continue to see more and more children arriving at school without warm coats.”
