COVENTRY officers have been out advising drivers about how to prevent vehicle crime as part of Operation Calibre, a national week focusing on robbery and burglary.
Officers set up shop in six car parks across the city to talk to drivers about ways they can keep their cars safe, handing out advice and tips about keyless vehicle thefts.
They also conducted numerous car checks and gave out advice to drivers who had left theirs unlocked when parked up.
Sergeant Deborah Walker, North-East Neighbourhood Co-Ordinator for the Coventry NPU, said: “Vehicle crime is one of our force priorities, so activities like this are a great way to help with crime prevention.
“As the temperatures are getting colder, many people are leaving their cars unlocked while they de-frost their windscreen.
“You should always make sure your car is locked when parked up and invest in some of the many anti-theft devices out there.
“Disc locks are a good deterrent, as are secondary tracking devices.”
Operation Calibre will consist of workshops, talks and drop-in sessions, including visits to schools and community groups and extra patrols in hotspot areas.
