COVENTRY City suffered a dramatic collapse as the Sky Blues surrendered a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Swansea City in a six-goal thriller.
City were on course for a comfortable three points after goals from Jonathan Panzo, Jamie Allen and Viktor Gyokeres put the Sky Blues firmly in command.
However, Joel Piroe started the Swansea comeback before late goals from Jay Fulton and Liam Cullen rescued an unlikely point for the Swans at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The result means Coventry sit 14th in the Sky Bet Championship table.
City spurned a glorious chance to break the deadlock when Callum O’Hare’s outside of the foot pass sent Gyokeres through on goal only for the Swede to be denied by Swans goalkeeper Steven Benda.
However, Coventry took the lead on 29 minutes when Panzo headed high into the goal to score his first goal for the club from Gustavo Hamer’s corner from the right.
The home side almost doubled their lead when Gyokeres picked out Jack Burroughs who saw his shot well-saved at the near post by Benda.
Mark Robins’ eventually extended their lead on 47 minutes when Allen curled a beautiful shot into the top left corner from the edge of the penalty area from Gyokeres’ lay off.
And City added a third goal on 54 minutes when Gyokeres finished off a lovely team move as Hamer, Allen and O’Hare all played one touch passes before the scorer kept his cool to fire in off the right-hand post against his former club.
However, Swansea pulled a goal back on 68 minutes as Piroe finished past Ben Wilson at the near post from Ryan Manning’s low ball from the left.
And the visitors further reduced the deficit on 76 minutes when Fulton produced an acrobatic finish under pressure from two defenders after Wilson had initially denied Piroe from close range.
Swansea completed an extraordinary second-half comeback on 84 minutes when Cullen scrambled the ball home from close range after Piroe’s initial header came back off the post.
Coventry are next in action at home to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, December 21 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the CBS Arena.
