COVENTRY United Women cruised into the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup with a dominant 4-0 win against fourth tier Hashtag United who finished the game with 10 players.
Ellen Jones, Mary McAteer, Alanah Mann and Freya Thomas were all on target for Coventry at Butts Park Arena whilst Jamie-Lee Bamford was sent off for the visitors.
And Coventry will play away at Women’s Super League side Brighton and Hove Albion in the fifth round with the game to be played from Sunday, February 26 at Broadfield Stadium.
Lee Burch’s side took the lead on 14 minutes when Jones poked home from close range after Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s header came back off the post.
And the home side doubled their lead on 20 minutes as McAteer produced an emphatic finish after Bamford tipped Olivia Rabjohn’s corner onto the crossbar and the visitors failed to clear their lines.
Hashtag goalkeeper Bamford was then sent off when she brought down Ryan-Doyle on the edge of the penalty area with the Coventry player through on goal.
And United further extended their lead on the stroke of half time as Mann unleashed a spectacular strike from 30-yards out that dipped over Tags substitute goalkeeper Christie Hale.
The home side completed the scoring on 75 minutes when Thomas found the top corner after Ryan-Doyle’s initial effort was tipped onto the post.
Coventry are next in action away at Charlton Athletic on Sunday, February 5 with kick-off at 2pm at The Oakwood.
