A DOUBLE decker bus highlighting how apprenticeships can help young people kickstart their careers will visit Coventry this week as part of a Midlands-wide tour.

The tour is being conducted by college group WCG as part of National Apprenticeship Week, which began on Monday and runs until Friday, February 10.

The bus will drive down to Coventry on Wednesday, visiting enthusiastic students at Westwood Academy and WMG Academy.

Students will climb aboard the bus to learn more about apprenticeships ranging from plumbing and engineering to horticulture and animal care.

This year’s national apprenticeship week theme is ‘Skills for Life’, with students taking part in several activities on the bus such as the assembly of plumbing fittings, animal health checks, table setting and horticulture seed sewing.

There will also be the chance for students to create their own catapult from lollypop sticks and spoons, as well as power tools demonstrations.

Mark Whittaker, from WCG, said: “Apprenticeships continue to be at the heart of government policy and will play a vital role in rebuilding the UK economy.

“There is always more work to do to ensure that young people know about the benefits of taking the apprenticeship route and that is what we are trying to do with our apprenticeship roadshow.”
