A COVENTRY restaurant opened its doors for a party of pensioners to enjoy a free three-course meal thanks to a partnership with charity Escape Arts.

French restaurant Bistrot Pierre donated a free meal to a resident, carer or anyone who took part in Escape Arts’ activities for every Sunday Christmas party booking of six people or more in the run-up to the festive season.

This gesture resulted in 30 Coventrians tucking into a free lunch last month.

Founded in 1997, Escape Arts aims to bring people together through creativity to tackle isolation and improve mental well-being.

Escape Arts is one of 17 local charities Bistrot Pierre has partnered with nationally in this scheme, with each of them being chosen for their support of older people in their communities.

CEO Karen Williams said they were ‘extremely grateful’ for the free lunch.

Bistrot Pierre Coventry general manager Adbel Bnouhanna added: “January can be a challenging time of year for any resident, but for the most vulnerable amongst us, there has never been more need for communities to open their doors and welcome our residents in.

“We really enjoyed welcoming each guest from Escape Arts for a much-needed treat, a warm meal and an opportunity to create lasting memories.”
