Coventry flying the rainbow flag for LGBT+ month

Coventry Editorial 15th Feb, 2023   0

COVENTRY is flying the flag in support of LGBT+ history month outside the council house.

Observed throughout February, LGBT+ history month is an annual celebration of the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people.

Founded in 2004 and celebrated for the first time in the UK the following year, the month gives people the chance to explore the history of LGBT+ rights and civil rights movements.

This year’s theme is ‘Claiming our past – Celebrating our present – Creating our future’, and encourages people to help undo the ‘erasing’ effect of the past and celebrate current LGBT+ lives.

And this month will also involve the behind-the-lens campaign, which celebrates LGBT+ people’s contribution to cinema and film from behind the scenes.

The council’s deputy leader Coun Abdul Salam Khan said: “Coventry has always been an inclusive city, welcoming people from all backgrounds, and this should be celebrated and that’s we are proudly flying the flag in support.”
