COVENTRY South MP Zarah Sultana was lifting silverware at Coventry United Women’s ground on Sunday as she was honoured by the football club for being an ‘outstanding female role model’.

Ms Sultana was presented with a ‘Coventry legends award’, a prize handed out to people the club feels have been committed champions of the city.

Coventry United Women launched the award in December to recognise outstanding Coventrians who had excelled in their fields or made a notable effort in the community.

Journalist Trish Adudu was an inaugural winner of the accolade, alongside young fans Hattie and Alice Mogan, who led fund-raising efforts to help save the club.

Ms Sultana was presented with the award at Butts Park Arena at half-time on Sunday where Coventry United faced off against rivals Birmingham City Women.

The Coventry South MP said she was hugely honoured to receive the award and thanked the club for inspiring young girls and women in the city.

Coventry United Women’s general manager Jack Heaselden added: “Born and raised in the West Midlands, Zarah is proud of her working-class upbringing and is a committed champion of Coventry.

“It gave us the greatest of pleasure to present the Coventry Legends community award to her.”
