COVENTRY’S rising musical talents will once again get the chance to perform at the city’s Godiva Festival as its ‘battle of the bands’ competition makes a return.

The heats for the ‘Godiva calling’ competition will be starting this month and running until June at venues such as Millsy’s, Coventry Caribbean Centre, The Tin Music and Arts, The Arches Music Venue and Castle Grounds.

Artists competing in the heats will be divided into one of the indie, urban, alternative, rock-metal, singer-songwriter and Under-18s categories.

Godiva Calling’s long-time organiser, Sam McNulty, said: “The festival always gives the local music scene a huge boost and Godiva Calling is the perfect way to get your talents noticed.

“I encourage everyone to enter and take advantage of this unique opportunity to play on the main stage of the UK’s biggest and best family festival.”

The popular event will take place at the city’s War Memorial Park between June 30 and July 2.

The Godiva Festival has traditionally been a summer event but for the last two years has been held in September.

Festival-goers can look forward to seeing world-renowned acts such as The Enemy, Rudimental, Melanie C and The Selecter across the weekend.
