Coventry foodbank founder to take on 32km Charity walk amid ‘highest-ever demand’

COVENTRY foodbank founder Canon Gavin Kibble MBE is urging Coventrians to join him as he aims to raise funds for and awareness of the service by walking 32km and stopping at all 14 of its centres.

Gavin will take on the ‘foodbank-athon’, expected to take around six hours, on May 29 to raise much-needed cash for the foodbank which is facing its highest-ever demand.

Currently, it is feeding 800 people each week, a huge increase from the 500 it was helping last January and 100 more than just four months ago.

The charity fed almost 30,000 people across the city in the 12 months from January 2022, its second busiest year on record.

The route starts from the most westerly foodbank in Canley and ends at The Halo Centre headquarters in Binley.

The foodbank-athon will also serve as preparation for Gavin’s planned trans-Pennine charity trek for his 60th birthday next year.

He said: “I’d love it if as many people as possible could join me on this pilgrimage from West to East of Coventry to celebrate 12 years of the life of Coventry Foodbank.”
