ICE HOCKEY - Clements commits to new two-year deal with Blaze

COVENTRY Blaze have confirmed the return of British defenceman David Clements on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old extends his stay with Blaze into an eighth season during which time he has proved to be an invaluable cog in Danny Stewart’s side.

Clements was awarded an associate captaincy role last season and recorded a career-high 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) in 66 Elite League competition games.

Head Coach Stewart said: “Clem is a big part of this club. His game gets better every year and the last couple of years his maturity on the ice has got better as well.

“He’s been a part of some very good D cores the past few seasons and we intend to build from there again.

“He’s a big part of our room off the ice, and he’s bought into this club through and through.”

Clements is homegrown and has represented Team GB at all levels and has made two senior appearances at the IIHF World Championship.

Before he turned professional, Clements spent three seasons with the Ogden Mustangs of the WSHL where he was made captain and became the team’s all-time leading points scorer for a defenceman.

And Clements joins British netminder Will Bray and Canadian forward Tyler Kirkup on the Blaze roster for the 2023/24 season with more signings to follow in the coming weeks.
