Coventry's grub and gab club gets £9,900 cash boost

COVENTRY’S Grub and Gab club has received a £9,900 cash boost from the Morrisons Foundation to help fund the charity’s ‘Saturday Kitchen’ service.

The service, open throughout the year, offers a free meal to any Coventrian experiencing food poverty.

The Grub and Gab club also offers free cooking lessons and a shopping bag filled with four days’ worth of ingredients to enable people to prepare healthy meals at home.

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by the supermarket chain in 2015 and awards grants to charity projects helping to improve people’s lives.

The Grub and Gab club’s operations manager Natasha Leese said: “Many people experiencing food poverty feel lonely and isolated, and this has additional impacts on their mental health.

“The Saturday Kitchen project will help to build emotional resilience and ensure people have the food they need so people are more able to cope with everyday life, reconnect with others and make the best of the support available to them.”
