HIGH needs learners at Coventry’s Hereward College receive an ‘outstanding’ education, according to its latest Ofsted report.

The inspectors, who made their four-day inspection in April, gave the highest possible grade for the college’s work with learners with high needs.

High-needs learners make up the majority of the college’s 450 students.

The report said leaders at the college were very ambitious for all the students, placing a strong focus on life after college and ‘meaningful and sustainable employment for learners.’

The college was also praised for tailoring its curriculums as well as the support for high-needs learners, which includes counsellors, therapists and coaches.

Hereward College’s principal and chief executive, Paul Cook MBE, said: “It is hugely rewarding the dedication of staff and the determination of learners to achieve their very best has been recognised by the Ofsted inspection team.

“We will continue to work both regionally and nationally with employers and government to improve the education and employment prospects for young people with disabilities and learning difficulties.”
