Magical witches and pagans festival to honour Coventry's Lady Godiva

Coventry Editorial 30th Jul, 2023   0

THE POPULAR festival of witches and pagans will be returning to Coventry in September- and there will be a special ritual in honour of Lady Godiva.

This latest edition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17 at the Heart of England Conference Centre.

The magical festival is back in Fillongley by popular demand after the success of May’s event, which marked the coronation of King Charles III.

The event, first launched in 2021 by a coven of Coventry witches, always includes a unique ritual or event to mark the time of year, its location or a specific occasion.

This ritual will honour Coventry’s Lady Godiva, whose own story is thought by many to reference pagan fertility rituals.

Organiser Julie Aspinall, from Coventry-based Coven of Gaia, said: “Lady Godiva is one of the most famous names from our local area, so we will be honouring her with our ritual drawing on the pagan references in her well-known story.

“No one Festival of Witches and Pagans is the same, and this is a reminder of the rich history of our area and the many references to witches and pagans that weave their way through the history books.”

September’s event will also involve druids for the first time including TV presenter and author Kristoffer Hughes.

Kristoffer, who is Head of the Anglesey Druid Order, worked professionally for His Majesty’s Coroner for over 30 years and will be presenting several workshops at the festival as part of a brand new Marquee.

Rituals will be held on both days and overnight on Saturday as well as workshops about spellcraft, wand making, crystals and flower crowns.

Other entertainment across the weekend includes a Witches’ Ball, a Viking battle, feast nights, and yoga and meditation sessions.

And there will be plenty of food and drink available as well as a shopping village selling items such as furniture, cloaks and mead.
