COVENTRY Sphinx remain winless in the league this season after suffering a 4-1 defeat away at Sutton Coldfield Town.
Despite taking an early lead through Matty Shipman’s strike, Sutton levelled the game just before half time break and scored three second-half goals without reply at the Central Ground.
The result means Coventry sit 19th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table after six matches.
After a bright start, Sphinx took the lead on 27 minutes when the ball fell perfectly at the feet of Shipman who fired home into the corner.
However, Sutton equalised on the stroke of half time when Sam Fitzgerald’s thunderous shot from distance flicked off a defender and curled into the top corner.
And the home side completed the turnaround on 73 minutes with Alex McSkeane smashing home before Ryan Edmunds crashed a shot in off the post four minutes later to take the game out of Sphinx’s reach.
Sutton added a fourth goal in injury time as Rhys Hilton’s effort compounded Sphinx’s misery with the Coventry club yet to register a win in the league this season.
Sphinx are next in action away at Quorn on Saturday, September 9 in the FA Trophy with kick-off at 3pm at Farley Way.
