COVENTRY author Aaron Ashmore will be selling copies of his city cycling history book at the start line of the Starley Sportive, with all the proceeds being donated to charities supported by the event.

Aaron’s book ‘A Starley Story’ will be available ahead of the bike ride, which will set off from Deeley Group’s George House headquarters at 8.30am on Sunday, September 24.

This year’s Starley Sportive is raising money for Warwickshire and Solihull Blood Bikes, Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

The book and Sportive both highlight the important work of John Kemp Starley and James Starley as the inventors of the Rover Safety Cycle.

‘A Starley Story’ highlights the importance of the duo’s inventions, their relationship with Coventry and their place in transport history.

Aaron said: “It is great to see how the book series and the Starley Sportive highlight the brilliant contributions of John Kemp Starley and James Starley, they are fascinating figures and it has been wonderful to increase people’s awareness of their place in history.”
