West Midlands among most unsafe for gas appliances

Coventry Editorial 17th Sep, 2023   0

STATISTICS show the West Midlands is the fifth most unsafe area in the UK when it comes to gas appliances.

The revelation comes from BOXT which analysed figures as part of Gas Safety Week which runs until Sunday, September 17.

The firm surveyed 2,000 people across the country to reveal how different ages and regions fare when it comes to gas safety knowledge.

The statistics showed of almost 2.5million households in the West Midlands, there were potentially 616,000 (around 25 per cent) with unsafe gas appliances.

The worst area was the South East with potentially 745,800 households out of 3.7million having unsafe appliances.

BOXT has issued five safety tips for people to ensure their appliances and homes are safe.

These include having appliances checked annually by a gas-safe engineer, looking out for signs of boilers not working properly, buying a carbon monoxide detector alarm, being aware of the symptoms of CO poisoning and ensuring the property is well-ventilated.
