How a switch to a smart meter can save you hundreds of pounds

Coventry Editorial 6th Nov, 2023   0

Severn Trent customers across Coventry and Warwickshire could save money on their water bill, whilst saving water and spotting a leak inside the home faster – all with a smart meter.

The water company is encouraging customers to sign up to benefit from having a smart meter installed – giving them more control over their water usage and bills.

The clever devices allow customers to see exactly how much their household uses hourly, which could mean a reduction in their water bills, but also in gas and electricity bills too, as appliances can use lots of energy to heat water.

Leaks inside the home can also be detected early through smart meters. A leaky loo could see customers paying over £300-a-year for water they don’t use if undetected.

Monthly reports, help and support

Personalised monthly reports showing household water usage is available with water saving tips and tricks on a digital portal that’s unique to smart meter users.

The meters act like any ordinary meter, either installed on your boundary box or inside the home for free and are quick and easy to install through an appointment at a time that suits.

Severn Trent say the smart meters will have an additional benefit helping the company understand water usage better, find and fix leaks faster and deliver water saving benefits for customers and the environment.

Severn Trent customer, Steven, said that he signed up to have a meter as he thought it would reduce his bill.

He said: “My bill was reduced significantly. It made me think a lot about how much water we used in the house.

“As long as you are mindful of not wasting water, it will be the best thing you ever do to reduce your monthly outgoings.”

Severn Trent’s Green Recovery smart metering programme lead, Anthony Hickinbottom said: “We’re excited to be able to offer those living in Coventry and Warwickshire the opportunity to be some of the first to benefit from having a smart meter.

“Not only does it help give customers greater insight into their water use, it will help save money and find and fix leaks and issues faster than before.

“It means our customers having greater control over their water usage and bills, which we know is especially important right now.” to customers to help keep their bills low and affordable

“We’d encourage anyone in the area who’d like the opportunity to save on their water bill, while saving water and the chance to find and detect leaks quickly – to get in touch.
