It’s party season, and we know what that means – plenty of nights out with friends. It’s one of the most fun times of the year, but it can also be among the most difficult, particularly for the non-drinkers among us.
Christmas doesn’t really cater too well for those that have been through alcohol rehab and are in recovery, or those that don’t drink for any other reasons. They tend to get lumbered with a Heineken 0% or a Diet Coke, in a pub that doesn’t really cater for them.
Which is a shame, because there are plenty of places across Coventry that do have excellent alcohol free offerings. So, if you’re looking for a night on the town this Christmas but want to cut the booze, here are some great options for you…
Twisted Barrel Ale Tap House
One of the best breweries in the city, Twisted Barrel is located in the heart of Fargo Village and has a great rotation of their own beers. While everything on the boards are alcoholic, and largely their own brews, there are some good non-alcohol selections in the fridges. The staff are great, the atmosphere is vibrant. The only thing you need to note is that it’s only open Wednesday to Sunday.
The Broomfield Tavern
The Broomfield Tavern is one of Coventry’s cosiest boozers, located in the Coundon area of the city. It’s a pub that oozes charm and offers an inviting atmosphere, with plenty of nice corners to settle down for a chat and a laugh with friends.
It supports local brews, as well as having a great craft beer selection, and that includes the non-alcoholic options, again all of which are in the fridges.
Hops d’Amour Micropub
Another specialising in craft beer, Hops d’Amour also caters for the non-drinkers with plenty in the fridges. Located in the heart of the city, it’s one of the friendliest places around, where chatting with strangers is the norm. For the drinkers, it’s beer selection is like nowhere else in the city, so for groups of people that are both alcohol and non-alcohol drinkers it’s perfect.
The Phoenix
The Phoenix is another in the heart of the city and is a trendy pub that shows live sport, hosts live music and in general has a real buzz about it. There’s an ever-evolving range of craft beers on tap, and for the 0%ers among us, the fridges have some good options, including Lucky Saint, one of the UK’s best non-alcoholic lagers.
What’s more, there’s a brilliant food menu, so it’s ideal for a lunchtime catch-up with a bit of food and a beer, alcoholic or otherwise, to wash it down.
Inspire Café Bar
Located in the Christchurch Spire, Inspire is one of the most unique bars in Coventry, if not the country. It’s a cultural hub for art and music and has a well-curated selection of drinks, with the non-alcholic options certainly thought about.
It has a real commitment to its community and sustainability, making it a vibrant, fun and intriguing venue to enjoy for a night out in the run up to Christmas.
