TWO Coventry cultural events have been given a share of a £3million grant of Commonwealth Games legacy funding.

The ‘Worldwide Welcome’ at the Godiva Festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has been given £500,000 towards its costs.

The event will take place between Friday and Sunday, July 5 and 7.

Reggae Fever, which is taking place in the city on July 20, has been awarded £250,000.

The event will be celebrating Caribbean culture.

The events are two of nine across the region to be given cash boosts.

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said: “It was always our intention that the Commonwealth Games should leave a lasting legacy far beyond the sporting spectacle – as wonderful as that was.

“Collectively, this backing will bring in hundreds of thousands of people to our region, give a welcome boost to local businesses and provide valuable jobs and volunteering opportunities for local people.”
