TEAM Enable riders Nick Whitley, Darren Atkins and Nick Popham won team gold at the British National Cyclo-Cross Championships in Falkirk, Scotland.
The trio took gold in the veteran 50-plus age category for Coventry-based Team Enable-MI Racing-McCann after Whitley won individual bronze supported by Atkins in 10th and Popham in 12th.
That came after the team’s star youth rider, Jefferson Tear-Verweij, made a great start in the under-16 race only to crash into a fallen rider’s bike and suffer a front wheel puncture.
After limping back to the pits for a bike change, Tear-Verweij battled on for the remainder of the race to finish a respectable 33rd overall.
And in the veteran 60-plus age category, Pete Busby suffered a painful hand injury following an early crash in his race but rode on to finish in 20th place.
