Police dog Gus detains suspect after Coventry motorbike theft

HIGHLY trained police dog PD Gus put his skills to good use, detaining a teenager suspected of stealing a motorbike in Coventry.

Officers attended the incident after reports of the theft from an address in the city.

PD Gus was deployed to chase the suspect who had made off from the scene of a crash involving a stolen motorbike and another vehicle in St George’s Road late on Friday night.

Dog Handler PC Paul King and PD Gus reacted quickly to detain him. A hammer was also recovered.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and going equipped for burglary.

He has bailed with strict conditions while officers carry out further enquiries.




A 17-year-old boy was also later arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid. He was also given bail with strict conditions while our investigations continue.

Sgtt Bruce Howell, Dog Section Supervisor, said: “PD Gus and his handler PC King carried out an excellent arrest.  Police dogs are integral to the work we do in protecting the public and fighting crime.”
