Barbara Dickson to headline final night at Warwick Folk Festival

Coventry Editorial 6th Jul, 2017   0

AWARD-WINNING Scottish singer Barbara Dickson will headline the Sunday night at this year’s Warwick Folk Festival.
Other headliners at the festival, running from July 27 to 30, will be Australia’s well-bearded Spooky Men’s Chorale and Britain’s own Oysterband who are celebrating their 40th anniversary. World music champion and broadcaster Andy Kershaw will also be taking to the stage with his accalimed one-man show, The Adventures of Andy Kershaw.
Dickson will give an special performance, accompanied by pianist Nick Holland, drawing from a back catalogue of songs from her folk roots through to chart hits, including Answer Me, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, Caravan and the million-selling number one single, I Know Him So Well.
Scotland’s best-selling female album artist has earned six platinum, 11 gold and seven silver albums during a career stretching back to the 1960s.
The 38th annual festival, now firmly established as one of the country’s top celebrations of roots music, will be taking place
at Warwick School and the surrounding town.
The festival will also feature music from around the globe, from Ireland’s Goitse to Venezuela Gaelica, together with much dancing, from morris dancing to belly dancing.
And there will also be ceilidhs, jam sessions, sing-a-rounds, workshops, from song to star-gazing, and more.
For younger festival-goers and families there will be circus skills, storytelling, theatre and crafts.
With so much going on refreshment will be needed, with food from around the world served up, and of course real ales in the beer tent, and even, with a nod to the current craze, a cocktail bar.
Festival director Dick Dixon said: “Ticket sales are going exceptionally well and I would strongly urge those who want to attend to book their tickets now.
“With so many superb headline acts including Barbara Dickson and Oysterband, the festival promises to be another fantastic fun-filled 4 day weekend of first-class entertainment for all tastes and ages”.
