Big names heading to Warwick Art Centre

BIG names aplenty are heading to Warwick Arts Centre in the coming months.

They include comedians Greg Davies and Phill Jupitus, folk rock pioneer Richard Thompson, powerhouse songstress Lulu, and legendary broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson.

Laughter will also be provided by the likes of Nina Conti, Joel Dommett, Milton Jones, Jeremy Hardy, Sofie Hagan, and Joel Dommett.

There will be an in conversation with Sir Michael, and Ruby Wax will showcase her new one-woman show Frazzled.




Music-wise, the Butterworth Hall stage will welcome vocal harmony group The Overtones, West End star Elaine Paige, and former Alison Moyet; Lau, and Coventry’s own Hazel O’Connor.

The classical music programme welcomes the St Peterburg Symphony Orchestra; the Hallé, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla leads the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the Bath Philharmonia will perform a live score to Hitchcock’s classic film Psych, and Warwick’s own Armonico Consort is joined by Sir Willard White.


Celebrated play, and cult film, Rita, Sue and Bob Too is back live on stage and directed by the play’s original director, Max Stafford-Clark. Andrea Dunbar’s classic, semi-autobiographical play is a vivid portrait of girls caught between brutal childhood and an unpromising future, told with wicked humour and startling insight. It’s brought to life by Taj Atwal, James Atherton and Gemma Dobson starring in the title roles.

Direct from the West End, Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days sees a cast of eight play over 125 characters as Phileas Fogg attempts to circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days, voyaging from the misty alleys of Victorian London to the exotic subcontinent and the Wild West in a race against the clock.

New digital technologies will also be embraced. Curious Directive bring their supernatural coming of age thriller, Frogman with the audience experiencing much of the show while wearing VR headsets, and Dear Esther Live will see a live play through a cult video game accompanied by live narration and a live performance of BAFTA-winning composer Jessica Curry’s score.

For youngsters, Michael Rosen’s award-winning book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt takes the audience on a fun adventure full of colour and song, while the Snow Mouse is a winter’s tale for the very young combing play, puppetry and music in a magical winter wonderland forest.

Leamington-based Motionhouse open the new season on October 4 with Charge, a new dance-circus show combining multi-media, dance and acrobatics

The Mead Gallery’s Autumn exhibition is a celebration of 1960’s British art. Kaleidoscope will bring together artists from the swinging decade in an exhibition of painting and sculpture.
